About Umeå

Conference venue

The conference will be held in the Humanities Building on the Umeå University campus. The campus is situated approximately three kilometers from the city centre and is serviced by several bus lines. Buses to/from the airport also stop near the campus.

Conference fees
SEK 1600
(PhD students SEK 1100)
The currency in Sweden is Swedish Krona (SEK).For current exchange rates, please refer to www.forex.se.
The fees include admittance to all sessions, refreshment during breaks, lunches, reception and conference dinner.

Registration
We need to have your registration form no later than October 1, 2008. Umeå Congress Bureau will send out letters of confirmation approximately five weeks before the conference.

All papers and a detailed programme will be sent out to the participants on October 15.

Badges
Name badges will be provided at the registration desk. Delegates are requested to wear their badge throughout the conference.

Travel and accommodation
Umeå Airport is serviced by SAS, Norwegian and Malmö Aviation. There are many daily flights and if you book your ticket well in advance, you can usually get a low fare. The flight from Stockholm to Umeå takes approximately one hour.

SAS and Fly Nordic operate from Arlanda International Airport, which is situated about 30 kilometers north of the Stockholm city center, while Malmö Aviation operates from Bromma Airport, some 10 kilometers from the city center.

You can also travel to Umeå from Stockholm by train or by bus. There are daily departures from Stockholm and the travelling time is about 10 hours.

The conference hotels in Umeå are situated in the city center near Vasaplan, from where buses leave for the campus and the airport.

Weather conditions
The weather in November can be quite fickle with snow alternating with rain and sleet, so you should be prepared for all kinds of weather.

Business hours/Credit cards/Currency
Shops are generally open between 10:00 – 18:00 on weekdays and from 10:00 to 16:00 on Saturdays. Some shops are also open on Sundays.

Commonly accepted cards in hotels, shops, restaurants and at the registration desk include American Express, Eurocard, Visa and Mastercard.

Letter of invitation
The Conference Secretariat will be pleased to provide letters of invitation on request. Such a letter will often facilitate the procedure of obtaining a visa for entering Sweden. Please note that the letter is not a commitment on the part of the conference to provide financial support to the holder of such a letter.
